President Joe Biden approved emergency declarations that make federal disaster assistance available to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
Tropical Storm Debby left five dead as it passed through Florida and Georgia, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported on Tuesday morning, as it continues its trajectory through American territory with major flood alarms.

The weather event brought torrential rainfall, flooding and strong winds. In that sense, the afternoon of this Monday was declared emergency by in the area of Lake City, where they had fallen up to 30.5 centimeters.
«Tropical cyclones always produce heavy rain, but usually as they move it does not accumulate in one place», said the National Hurricane Centre specialist, Richard Pasch, who pointed out that “when moving very slowly, that is the worst situation».
According to the NHC, record rains predicted for the region could produce water accumulations of up to 76 centimeters (30 inches) in some areas.
Up to 46 centimeters (18 in) were predicted for central and northern Florida. Possible floods also threaten Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina.
Debby made landfall on the Florida coast in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday as a Category 1 hurricane, but it has slowly weakened to tropical storm, covering the streets with water.
